WORKSHOP HIV VIRAL LOAD TESTING AND SPECIMEN TRANSPORTATION
The implementation of this Workshop will take place from 20-21 August 2024 at B Hotel, Jl. Imam Bonjol No.508, Pemecutan Klod, Kec. West Denpasar, Denpasar City.
The background to this activity is the global effort to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030 has been agreed with the target of 95-95-95, which includes:
1. "95%" of people living with HIV know their HIV status.
2. "95%" of people living with HIV receive ARV treatment.
3. "95%" of people living with HIV who receive ARV treatment experience viral suppression.
As of December 2023, 391,598 people with HIV (PLHIV) have known their HIV status, and 140,622 people have received ARV treatment. Guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) establish HIV viral load (VL) testing as the gold standard in monitoring the effectiveness of ARV treatment. As of December 31, 2023, 106,591 PLHIV on ARV treatment have undergone HIV VL examination. To achieve the 95-95-95 target, various steps have been taken, such as:
- Providing access to examination in 38 provinces with large-capacity machines and molecular rapid tests (TCM).
- Providing HIV VL reagents and cartridges sourced from the APBN and grants from The Global Fund.
- Providing funds for couriers to send specimens and HIV VL examination costs.
This workshop aims to:
1. Increase the Capacity of Health Workers: Provide the knowledge and skills needed to support the achievement of the third 95% target, namely viral suppression in PLHIV undergoing antiretroviral therapy (ART).
2. Coordination and Communication: Improve cross-sector coordination and communication related to HIV VL examination, including recording and reporting.
3. Increased Support: Optimizing support from various parties, including the Provincial Health Office, District/City Health Office, HIV testing services, PDP services, HIV VL examination laboratories, as well as the community and PLHIV themselves.
This workshop will be an important platform to strengthen capacity and coordination in efforts to improve the quality of HIV services, especially in viral load testing and specimen management.
